I'm still sick.
I had my repeater go down yesterday. The Linksys reset it self to factory defaults. Stupid Linksys.
My other repeater went this morning at about 6am. I had to reboot it. I don't know what is wrong with Linksys stuff. I don't know why Cisco would want to buy them.

I build a Linux repeater using two Linksys WMP11 PCI radios. It's mostly working. I just need to figure out the routing. I can ping each side. I can ping the internet from the repeater. But I can't ping through the repeater. Before I would just use IPMASQ and it would work, but this time I'm not doing NAT. So I think it's just a routing rule. I'm still looking through docs and stuff to figure it out.

My wireless network is so unstable. It's really a disappointment. Every day I have one of my repeaters go down. Last week it was the Linksys WAP11's. This week its my Linksys WET11 and D-Link DWL-900AP+. Every week it's something that I have to drive out to the site and cycle power. Is there any hardware that does not lock up? There is some hardware that looks like its robust enough to work, but it would cost me over $2000 to set it up. Linksys and D-Link need to put a reboot timer in their software, because their hardware sucks so bad.

I got my PPTP server working. I turned off the firwall and IP Masq. There is probably a way around it without the firewall in place, but you can not get to the net without the login or a hack. I've followed the instructions in the Shorewall documentation, but I can not get it to function like they say. I set it up and I can't get through the firewall. I will need to get my T1 setup before I can really test it though.
I'm up to seven customers now. Working on my 8th. I should be getting my T1 very soon. I can't wait. It's been 7 months already since I first started getting quotes for the T1. The prices have gone up. I just hope that I can afford it once I get the 15 customers that I need.

I will need to figure out a way to write a script to reboot the WAP11's. They seem to lock up from time to time. I've tried the new firmware's but that does not seem to help. If I can't get a script to work, maybe I can build a power cycle circut and put it between the 5vdc and the WAP11. That might be the way to do it.

What a night. Both repeaters went offline. POP1 went down because of a solar panel being blown over and the battery leads shorted. POP2 just locked up. I think that I may have locked up POP2 when doing some status report programming. I put the status report on my web site and shortly after it locked up. It was running for almost a week straight before that, so it may have been me.

I am still working on the firewall. I have the PPTP working well now. The problem I have now is getting the default gateway set on the Windows system. I just can't figure it out. Maybe I'll get it this weekend.

Msg:#526 of 1364Date:2003-03-30Subj:I'm trying to build a firewall...
I'm trying to build a firewall for my wireless network. What I want is a system that has the following requirements:
Reference: eth0 = internet, eth1 = wireless lan.
* Anything from eth1 to the firewall should be redirected to bmg50.com's web site.
* All encrypted streams from eth1 using PPTP should be let through to eth0 and not blocked or redirected.
The first rule is so someone can go to my web site and sign up for service. The second rule is so that users can access the internet iif they are using PPTP encryption.
I have the PPTP server running, and it seems like its working so far. I may have to switch to a more beefy system for it though.
I guess I'll have to dig into the IPTables docs to figure this out.

I'm still waiting on Pipers. I was going to have the repeater go live today, but I'm still waiting for a place to plug it in. They told me tomorrow at 9am. All I need is a wall plug. I could just setup solar. I should just setup solar. This is taking too long.
