Green Light!
I've got a green light on my E1T1 card. That means my frame relay is up and running. I've got the IP addresses in and I'm ready to go. I'm just waiting for it to be turned up. Looks like it will be done on the 30th now. Too far away, I want it now! ;-)

To T1 or not to T1
I'm still waiting for my T1 (Frame Relay). It should be here this week. SBC still has not called me for anything. I sure hope everything is still on track. I'm hoping to get a call this week saying that they will be on there way to install it on friday. Maybe it will happen, maybe it wont. All I know is SBC is one really messed up company.
Wow...The Frame Relay Has Arrived!
So I look out the window this morning and see a SBC truck sitting out front. 30 minutes later the Frame Relay is installed. It's all good! Now I just need to get my IP block so I can actually use it. I've placed a few calls and left a few messages. Hopefully I'll get the IP's tomorrow!
Skateboarding
I had a good time skateboarding today. I got my smiths back from losing them when I got my new wheels. I put risers on so I would not get wheel bite. That helped a lot. Now I'm on it. I went to the park today to learn some new tricks, but I didn't really learn anything new. I was really tired. I think that next time I'll bring my bike. I need to learn some more stuff on my bike. I'm thinking of doing an ice pick on the bank to slant wall. That would be cool. Next weekend....
WRIP Ping of Death
The software that Net Nimble setup for the WRIP's does not work. I asked for something to keep them from locking up where I would have to drive out to their location and power cycle them. I've been using some code that pings the WRIP's to see if they are up. This works good. I have it ping every 10 minutes. If a ping does not make it back to me, I wait a few minutes and try again. If it still does not come back, then I sound the alarm. So they do a ping that pings every second and if one ping does not make it, it reboots it. A) One second is way too short. B) It should not reboot, it should reset the ethernet interfaces. It also has a hardware watch dog. It's suppose to watch the system and reboot if anything locks up. One box it works, the other it does not.
My mission is to figure out how to get my own software on these boxes. This closed source proprietary crap sucks, and it's only going to cause problems in the future.
Jury Duty
I just called the courthouse and court has been canceled for the 23rd. That means that I do not need to go! Woo woo... I was worried about that because I would have to shut down my business to go to it.
SBC and the Frame Relay
I confirmed my due date with SBC for my Frame Relay. It will be ready on the 27th. This is very good. I have waited a long time for it.
I will also need to get about 15 more customers hooked up with it to pay for it. Just as soon as I get it stable, I'm going to go door to door. Maybe I can get a few more people in my neighborhood signed up.
I am having a problem with one customer right now. He has a USB radio with a 8dBi antenna. It is having problems cutting through his roof to the relay just above his house. I'm not sure what to do about it. He does not want to use the ethernet setup that I have. I'm looking for a more powerful USB solution right now that will cost about the same as I just paid. I bought the USB radio from Super Pass. It was about $70. The next one up will be $130.
I'm never going to sell on the cheap again. Too much hassle. $180 CPE or nothing.
What a morning already.
This morning while I was in the shower a coyote jumped the fence in our chicken coop and ate all of our chickens. When I woke up this morning, I looked out there and the chickens were all scratching around and stuff. Then I got in the shower. When I finished, I went out back to shoot the pidgins and found out that we had no chickens. I looked around the yard and found their remains. I found where they jumped the five foot fence. That really sucks.
Next we found out the hard way that our vehicle registration was expired. We found out that the DMV had changed our address somehow to an incorrect one. It's right on our licenses, and on our old registration, but wrong in the DMV computer. I guess they sent out the renewal and it was returned. Fun.
#14 and all's well
I'm installing my 14th customer today. Now I will have enough customers to pay for half my bandwidth. CDC wants to host Webentory on my network, so that will pay the other half. Things are looking good. I'm thinking that I will have 100 customers total, so I will probably need another T1 for that. Then I'll be rolling along at a good clip.
Trackback
John has added to his Trackback rant. One of the problem he notes about referrers is they may not come from the correct page. "When you're tracking referrers from here, you might see readers coming from http://daringfireball.net/ and http://daringfireball.net/2003/06/take_your_trackbacks_and_dangle.html, but in fact, they're coming from the same article." I was thinking about this and came to the conclusion that I can make the link from the main page link to the article page, then redirect on to the intended link using a refresh meta tag or HTTP header redirect. I think that I will implement this ideal in my journal and see how it works.
