Click to view.Yesterday I received my new LG G4011 Cell Phone. It's really small and light. I just can't believe it. I didn't expect it to be so small. But hey, it's kinda cool. One thing I don't like is the background pictures. I can change them, but I can't remove them. They have a few sports photos and some landscape photos. Mostly just distracts from the info on the screen. I have it set to the most un-intrusive one, a sail boat, and it's OK, I guess.

The battery seems to charge fast and last long. I've had it unplugged all night now and it still has a full charge. Even after playing around with the ring tones.

So far I like it. But I do have 30 days to try and if I don't like it I can send it back.

What a day. It's been very windy today. I'm not sure if that is what is causing my outages, but I'm having many of them. Seems like every few hours my relays go offline. It's driving me nuts.

I have two problems now. First problem, my main radio is locking up a lot. Second problem, I'm still getting the interface timeouts on my relays.

The second problem is fixable. I need to setup and configure new relay software. FreeBSD 5.x has the fixes to the wireless troubles. (from what I've read). So I need to redo m0n0wall using the 5.x kernel. I should add a few more things to it also, like log checks and ping tests.

The first problem is a bit harder to fix. Mostly because I don't know why it's happening. I believe it's due to the ethernet cables going from the electric box to the radio box. The wind might be messing with them. I need to run all new wires from the server room to the radios on the tower. This is a big job. It will take about four hours to do it. I need to do it.

Oh, and I have another problem. I still need to get my VPN server going. Arg. Too much to do... not enough time to do it.

Msg:#802 of 1364Date:2004-04-19Subj:I'm still working on the email...

I'm still working on the email and VPN servers. I've built a totally new email server using Postfix, Courier-IMAP, and PostgreSQL. I put all the user info into the database and Postfix/Courier is suppose to get the login and email info from that.

Problem is, I can't get it to work right. I think that the problem is in the encrypted password. I need to upgrade my database server to support the crypt() function.

Anyway, another major project to do, upgrade the database server. That will probably break everything... heh. I'm going to install all that on another system, then just move the HDD into the database server.

So, I hope in a week or so I will have both the email server and the VPN server online.

The tricky part will be migrating all the user email over to the new server. That's going to be a pain in the butt.

Msg:#801 of 1364Date:2004-04-16Subj:Ahh, the joys of server migrat...

Ahh, the joys of server migration. I've got my new email server up and running. Now I'm configuring the email server applications. What I want to do is get all the email account information from my database server. That will making adding and removing accounts much easier. I can use that same database for the VPN server also. So one place will control the usernames and passwords for all the accounts.

Now there is a problem. How do I keep the info safe. I need to encrypt the data in the database somehow, but still have it available to the apps that need it. I sure don't want someone hacking into my database server and steeling all the passwords to everything. (I'm going to make sure my email password is different from my account passwords...)

Next thing I need to do is get my radius server working for the VPN stuff. Arg. I still don't have it going and it's still giving me problems. I did fix the reboot problem on the server. It's been running for 2 days 19 hours. That's a step in the right direction.

Ohh, and I need to convert my database server over to FreeBSD. That's one thing that I'm not looking forward to. I do like the fact that I'll be getting the latest Postgresql on it, but I don't like the fact that I have to export the database and import it into the new version. I always have problems with that. db_dump always misses something. I'll just cross my fingers and go for it.

Click to view.Ahh... Finally got my two new web servers up and running. Spent a lot of time last night and today getting them configured. This web site is running on one of them right now.

Two new 1u 850Mhz web servers. I bought them from my good buddy Paul for $200 each.

Now I can get rid of the desktop servers that are cluttering the top of my server cabinet. I have two that I'm thinking of selling on eBay. I should at least recover some of my money.

So now in the rack I have (from top to bottom): Database server, VPN server, www2, www1, Email server, APC power supply. The router will sit on top of the rack since it's not a rack mount case.

I plan to get another 1u server, but I'm not going to have any money for awhile. I have to save up to put a new roof on the house. ;-)

Wow, long time with no update.

This last weekend I spent the whole time out side. We have been cleaning up around our house. Things have been getting a bit messy around here. So we burned a whole bunch of scrap wood and old garden stuff. We picked up all the trash and put it in the trash bin. All in All, things are looking good.

Yesterday I picked up some fence from a neighbor. He wanted to have ti cleared off his property, so we went over there and did it. We can use it to redo our chicken coop, because it's 6 foot fence and will keep the dogs and coyotes out.

I also got my truck running over the weekend. It was a simple fix once we had the part. It seems to be running good, but I need to drive it around a bit more to make sure it stays running. Next thing to do is to pour a cement pad where my garage is going to be. Then start working on my Samurai. By the end of summer, my Samurai will be a off road beast. ;-)

I should be getting my two new rack mount servers today. These will replace my two web servers that I'm running currently. I want to get them off the top of the cabinet and into the cabinet. That should reduce some of the noise in this room. I can't wait to get them. They will be here tonight some time.

I think I'm going to use one of my old servers as my Linux router. Then my current router can be the third web server in my group. Then I can get rid of that other desktop also.

An I __still__ need to finish my VPN server. I have to get that done! Arg... I'm lagging so much. Right now it's rebooting it's self at random times. So I have to figure that out. It maybe some bad memory in it. I sure hope it's not the CPU's.

Anyway, I need to get back to work.

Omniweb 5! The best browser in the world! It's looking really good. Only a few more problems that I can see... When am I going to get my tool tips back?

New Beta 5 is ready for download. Releases are getting faster. They must be getting close.

I just noticed that I may have some unauthorized clients on my network. I see some strange computer names coming up on the DHCP. I really need to get this stuff secured down.... ASAP!
