Msg:#1013 of 1363Date:2005-06-26Subj:Samurai, half done.
One half of the Samurai lift is done. As you may know, I'm doing the spring over lift on my tin top. The weather started getting bad today so I had to stop for the night. I'll probably get most of the front done tomorrow. I need to find a puller to get the steering link off. I still have to plumb the brakes in the rear also. Possible the front too. The different from an 86 to an 88 is that the 86 has two brake lines and the 88 only has one. Anyway, simple enough to do.
It's quite a difference just four inches makes on the rig. I'll be running over bigger rocks now. Next is to get longer shocks, longer brake lines, drive shaft extensions, and possible some kind of high steer option.
Anyway, enough for today.

Msg:#1012 of 1363Date:2005-06-23Subj:Still no t-case.
Still no t-case in the mail. I just called and now it's going to be shipping Monday. Three weeks after I ordered it. Gesh. So another weekend dead in the water.
I'm seriously thinking that I'm not going to finish my project by the end of July.
Oh, and I received two quotes for 4-link. Actually three quotes but I'm throwing out the third because it's retarded. (Well, the local guy will do it for $5000 and can't just sell me the parts).
I can get the links made for $180 each, so the total for everything will be about $2500. Or I can weld it all myself and do my own tabs for $2100. Do I want to save $400 and do it myself? $400 is the difference of a locker in the rear...
I think I'm going to be about three months late on this project.

Msg:#1011 of 1363Date:2005-06-20Subj:Happy Birthday To Me... a bit early...
Saturday I had my birthday party. It's a week early, but that's when everyone was available to show up. Saturday morning I went wheeling. That was fun. We went over the mountain into hidden valley...sorta. We just went down half way, played around, then came back up.
After we got back we all went out to dinner in Fallon. Then back home for cake and ice cream. I think we watched every wheeling movie I have. It was a blast.
While wheeling I hit a rock and dented my front pumpkin. So I decided that I would finally do my axle swap. So now my Samurai is out back with the rear axle half off. I'm still trying to get the break lines off. They just don't want to budge. Anyway, I figure I'll work on it in the evenings to finish it up for next weekend. I might have to buy a steering linkage for it when I get done. A drop pitman arm is $98. A Z'd link is $129. I would have to buy one of them if my drag link rubs on the springs. I hope I can get away without it. I'm doing the very minimum lift. I've got a line on some 33" tires for it also. That will get me over those dang rocks. ;-)

Msg:#1010 of 1363Date:2005-06-12Subj:Saturday's Progress
Yesterday I moved the shed from one side of our yard to the other side. I moved it so it would be closer to where I was working. Also I wanted to clean (2 3) it out and make things easier to get at.
In other news, I made no progress on my crawler. Still just parts laying all over the yard. I'm probably going to get some tubing this week and get some tube work done next week. That will sure be a relief. I don't know if I'm going to get it done by the end of July now. It's just taking sooo long to get started. I think that once I get started on it, it will go quick. I just need a welder, notcher, cuter, and other stuff. Oh, and I need a Dana 60 Front Axle. uhff. I did trade this for this Dana 60 rear.

So this week I've spent a bunch of money.
1) Pro-Tools Tube Bender
2) Marlin Dual-Crawler Transfer Case.
Things are starting to come together. Now if I can get get a paycheck from work I'll be happy.

Msg:#1008 of 1363Date:2005-06-03Subj:3 Months
This photo pretty much sums up the last three months of my life. I'm not saying it's been all bad, I guess this is my work life. I've had good times wheeling and hanging out with family, but this definitely represents my work life for the past three months.
I'll sure be glad when things start coming together and working. One large stress maker has been sold off and I'm glad. The next one is just around the corner.
Anyway, the weekend is coming soon and I can't wait.

Msg:#1007 of 1363Date:2005-06-02Subj:Finally.
I've learned a lot of stuff in the past 11 days about wireless networks. I finally found a way to bridge all my wireless cards and devices. I can finally run the whole network on a public class IP's. I learned about WEP, WPA, and WDS.
But...
I'm using the Sputnik system. I can't find a way to make it use public IP's. Nor a way to do static IP's. It does do a lot of other things though. It's not complete by any means. I still have to manually do things like add users and whatnot. I found out that their AP160 was causing all my problems, so I pulled it off the tower.
But really, I don't much care about the wireless stuff any more. It was fun while it lasted. I've sold the company and I'm going to concentrate on my programming.
I'm a bit scattered brained right now. But I guess I can finally get some sleep.
Good night.

Msg:#1006 of 1363Date:2005-05-31Subj:Wheeling.
Went wheeling on Saturday. It was crazy cool. This photo was taken with a phone camera so it's not really that good. But you get the idea. My front wheel is about four feet in the air.
Randy came up with his Toyota and we went to the Brain Patch. That's a place where you always get your wheels off the ground.
It was probably the top wheeling day ever. Just about beats the ice wheeling from winter. I guess about the same on the scale.
Anyway, I can't wait to go back..

Msg:#1005 of 1363Date:2005-05-31Subj:Finally!
It's been like 9 days since my internet was tweaked. I'm finally back online. I'm knocking on wood right now too.
Dave and I have installed the Sputnik wireless systems. One AP160 and two AP250s. Took awhile to get everything setup right, but we finally did it. It was pretty crazy there for awhile. Took an entire day to get it up and running. I think I climbed my tower like 15 times. I'll probably be sore later.
We ran into a problem at the end where it was incredibly slow. Crazy slow. But I figured out that it was the main radio was doing 802.11b and 802.11g. I turned off the G and now it's quick.
I wish that I could use public addresses on the customer side though. All well. Not going to be my problem soon anyway.

Msg:#1004 of 1363Date:2005-05-29Subj:The Solution Wasn't Much of A Solution.
Well, the previous solution was really not much of a solution. It actually was worse. But today I finally figured it out and fixed the internet.
I'll write it down here so that others can learn from my work.
AP1 (main tower)
Put the wireless cards into Master mode. Setup WDS on them. Then bridge them with the ethernet port. (eth0 wlan0 wlan1wds0 wlan2wds0).
AP2 (remote bridge)
Same thing, put the cards into Master and setup WDS. Then bridge them with eth0. (eth0 wlan0wds0 wlan1).
AP3 same as AP2.
Anyway, now that I've figured out how to bridge the two wireless cards, my whole class C on the /24 subnet is working perfectly. No more subnets or running parprouted. This is so much nicer.
I'm done, stick a fork in me. (8 days to fix the internet is way too long).
