Today, on our way to church, we find a check for $3000 in the parking lot. After church, Jane called the number on the check to tell them that their check was found in the parking lot. The guy really wanted to get the check back. So we planned to meet him at the mall. We have our lunch and the guy comes in to pick up his check. I give him the check and he says that he wants to give us a reward. I told him that we did not need a reward for it. As I was saying no, he pulls out his money clip and says to me, "Don't worry about it, I can afford it." He peels off some of the money on the top of the clip and hands it to me. I am not the type that refuses money twice. As I take the money from him, he tells me that its about $30, and that it should cover our lunch. We say our good buys and he leave. Jane and I sit back down at the table to finish up our lunch. We then look at the money. It was a bit more than $30. It was $160 to be exact. What a nice guy.

That was my adventure for the day.

I trimmed some of the fat off this page. Its only contains a journal now. Maybe I'll add a menubar for other things later. I just got sick of seeing each graphic transfer in my Apache logs. Its all good now. Less is better you know.

Jane finished her Portifino today. It looks really great. Its perfect. She will have it on her web site right after sabath. Its really cool.

Did I ever tell you guys that Jane cooks really good? She makes the best meals that I've ever eaten (next to my mom). I am so glad that we are together.

Anyway.....

Back to work...(I work too much)

Do you guys know how hard it is to find someone to do web/graphics? Its impossible. I have been looking for two months. My company is going to die if we do not find someone quick. You would think that there are a bunch of people looking for web work with all the dot com's going out of business. Its just crazy.

Anyway, Webentory is a hot ticket. Its a grand slam. The people love it. Its still got sharp edges, but I'm working on them. I think that we are going to grow like crazy in the next few months. Things are looking good. I'm going to have to buy some shades.

Well, if anyone knows anyone that is looking for work in the web/graphics department. Send an email to resume@automallcity.com. Include examples...

Late!

Ok, so now I'm really back on Linux. FreeBSD is really great, but it lacks in a few places. Apps, and ease of install. It does make a great server, but only a ok workstation. I was missing a lot of things like Flashplayer and both channels on my audio card. There were a few other things as well. I could have just dug around and fixed them, but I have better things to do. Linux really runs about the same as freebsd anyway.

So, now I'm trying to get all my stuff fixed on Linux and get it back up and running. I'm glad I used a dual boot system. And now I can say I know FreeBSD. I gave it a good shot. I will continue to use it on my servers.

Other news:

AMC has moved most of the classic dealers over to v2. I hope that everything goes well and not too many problems to fix. I still need to get a few more things working, but I guess Beta testing is in order.

Well back to work I go...

Msg:#270 of 1364Date:2001-08-30Subj:Lets see, its been a long time...

Lets see, its been a long time since my last entry (10 days). Lots have happened. Last weekend we went to Nevada again. It was really fun. We put the well pump in. That was cool. Now the Reynolds have water, and lots of it. about 10-12 gal. per minute. They are really happy to be out there. I can't wait to move next door.

My knee is still healing from being burned on the ramp. I'm not going to skate junky ramps anymore. I'm always getting caught on skrew heads and stuff. I need to recap my knee pads also. They are getting worn out.

I installed KDE2 today. Its not as good as people say. It crashed on my a whole bunch. It took like 10 hours to download and install. What a waste...Maybe... I have not used the koffice tools very much, but they have not crashed on me yet. Just the Konquerer app.

Barspin... Lets see if it gets updated. I left it to Ryan to update the next issue. I dont think he will do it. I am sure that he will not do it. Anyway, I'm tired of supporting that site, and I will just let it die. I need to do my sites.

Built2Grind is totally not working yet. I have like one page, and the database is not even designed yet. I need to get some time. I lag so much.

Webentory is being turned on right now. I am finishing up the last of the bugs while we are moving clients to it. Fun fun fun...

Anyway, I'm going back to work.

Msg:#269 of 1364Date:2001-08-19Subj:Yesterday I went to the Grand ...

Yesterday I went to the Grand Prix skateboard park. They have some really nice vert ramps. They have a nice mini-ramp as weel. I dont know if I will go back though. I was doing the "Tony Hawk Air Show" trick, and the board fell down the ramp. I then jumped into a knee slide down, well... My knee pad was ripped off my knee via a skrew head, and I slid the rest of the way down bare kneed. That sucked. Now I have a nice burn on my knee. I sprayed New Skin on it, and now I'm waiting for it to heal. Sucks though anyway.

I went to LaSierra Skatepark also. I love that vert ramp there. I really need to skate it more. I really suck these days. I can't do a single trick on vert anymore. I think that I need to go back a lot. Its not really that far away, and its only $2 for a three hour session. When my knee heals, thats where I'll be. New hours will be 3pm-6pm or something.. I know it starts at 3pm.

Late.

Ok, remember...

dd if=test.doc of=test2.doc bs=1 skip=137216

This will strip the sircam virus from the email attachment that it sends to spread itself. Now I can read all them xls files with the titles like 2001 Projected Income from email addresses coming from the likes of Dell.com.

How fun.

In other news. I'm still on BSD and I have not turned back yet. I have everything working, and it works faster than on Linux. This is really cool. I have not learned much about the internals yet, but I think I like this ports thing. I even got dual head Matrox working tonight.

Back to the grind...

Msg:#267 of 1364Date:2001-08-13Subj:I'm back on FreeBSD. I found ...

I'm back on FreeBSD. I found out some of the problems were that I needed to get the linux_base compatibility installed.

I guess FreeBSD does not have as many apps, so the use Linux apps.

Well, I've been on BSD for a few days now. I'll tell you all one thing I have found. Its a real pain to get anything to work. I think I'm going to move back to Linux. Its just so hard to make anything run right. I can see it being a great server OS, but not a workstation at all. Its a good thing I kept my Linux OS around on my 1st hdd.

One more note though. FreeBSD is much more stable than Linux, and a bit faster too.

Welp, next time I write in here... I'm going to be back on Linux.

Msg:#266 of 1364Date:2001-08-08Subj:Well... I'm on FreeBSD now. I...

Well... I'm on FreeBSD now. I spent the last three days getting it all setup. It takes a long time to compile so much software. Seems like everything needs to be compiled to be installed. So far I have a working setup that looks the same as my old Debian setup. X and Gnome is installed running with Enlightenment. I have Mozilla and GVIM installed for my web work. It all took about 48 hours of downloading and configuring. Its not as easy as Linux is to setup. Its very different on some things. So far its running good. I had a problem with some apps crashing, but I prolly have a bunch of libs messed up.

Its been really hot around here also. Our AC has been running all day and night. We only keep it 79 in the house. It has been about 104 outside. I was going to go to the skatepark today, but it was just too hot for that. I hope to go tomorrow though.

Well, its late and I need sleep. Tomorrow Rob gets back from vacation, and there is going to be a ton of work to do.

Late.

Msg:#265 of 1364Date:2001-08-04Subj:We just got back from Nevada y...

We just got back from Nevada yesterday. It was a lot of fun, as usual. Randy came home after his truck driver tranning. He has been gone for about 2 months or so. So we went up the hill to see him. We had fun going to the movies, going up the hill and shooting, and just hanging out. I got to try my SKS with the new 30 round clips. That was cool. I've got pictures on Jane's photoalbum.

Other stuff...

I've been really busy with AMC. I am still doing all the tech stuff. Its a lot of work. I'm taking tech support calls, programming Webentorytm, web site updates, and building new web sites for new clients. I'm way over stretched. I really need to find someone to do web sites and updates. Its so hard to find good people that can do the work. The other day I got an updated site to put up and the HTML code was crap. I dont know who did it, but geesh, take some pride in what you do.... I will have to totally redo the whole thing because it does not stretch for content. Lame, thats all I have to say. Total image sites suck. Text is better. Text downloads faster and looks better. Microsoft is who invented code bloat, and about 95% of the web sites on the net right now are bloated to the max. This web site had blank space as images... Just empty space with nothing in it... A big graphic.

Anyway... I'm ranting... I know.. I get like this when I see bad work.

Oh.. Another thing. The US Gov gave me $600 yesterday. Woo wooo! I'm gunna get some new shoes tomorrow! Maybe a new deck too, mine is getting bad. Jane ordered some boots for Nevada. (She is a cowgirl now 8->)

Well... I'm back to work.
