Another three customers for BMG50 this week. Things are still looking good. There are 32 customers on the system now. Not bad at all. Now it really is paying for it's self. In fact, I should be seeing profit soon. This really makes me happy.

Click to view.Jane has been working hard all year on our home. This week she has been in the master bathroom doing the counter tops. She is doing a great job. What she did is went out and bought a bunch of old plates and other dishes. Then she broke them all up. Now she is gluing and grouting them onto the counter tops. I think it looks great. She will probably have it done real soon. In a few days or so.

The new barspin.com is alive! I had to totally redo the site today just to get it up, but now it's back and looking good. I've already got some good comments on the design. Anyway, check it out.

So I spend a few days rewriting Barspin.com and I finally get finished with it. I go to move the files into the web site directory not realizing that the directory that I'm is is a soft link to the web site directory. So instead of giving me an error, Mac OS X deletes all the files. Great. Time to start all over again.

On a Samba share:
mkdir something
ln -s something something_else
cd something_else

On Mac OS X in the shared directory.
cd something_else
touch test_file
mv test_file ../something
mv: rename test_file to ../something/test_file: No such file or directory

Watch it go by by.

Msg:#690 of 1364Date:2003-10-30Subj:More tweaks to the web site. ...

More tweaks to the web site.

I decided to set the width to 750px and put a dark grey background on. I also added a thicker border to the right side.

I had the header setup to be fixed for awhile, but that didn't work out. It became to hard to align the content area because the header was floating above the content. I would have thought it would push everything down, but it didn't.

I also added a new menu bar as a test of some CSS stuff. It's kinda cool, but it does not scale well. If the site is too narrow or if the font is too big then it wraps and looks ugly. I had to remove some items from it. Originally I wanted to make it a standard list, but it didn't work right. I'll probably change it later.

The site is still valid XHTML Strict, but it does not render well in Microsoft Internet Explorer. It's just too bad that Microsoft does not want to support web standards. I'm sick of spending time conforming my site to Explorer's bugs. So if it does not look right, it's just too dam bad.

Msg:#689 of 1364Date:2003-10-29Subj:I have been using Modern Bill ...

I have been using Modern Bill for my billing software for BMG50 Wireless. There are a lot of problems. The biggest problem is that it's main focus is on domain hosting. I just need billing. It works OK for billing, but there are a lot of small problems. I've been dealing with the problems for about a year now because they have been working on an upgrade. I've been waiting for this upgrade for a long time. From the forums, it looks like many have been waiting.

A few days ago I installed a release candidate version of the new Modern Bill. After using it for a few days I come to realize that they did not really change anything. This is suppose to be a major release. So far there is no PostgreSQL integration, the HTML is still non-standard and invalid, the themes still don't stick, the reports are still the same, no late fees, printable invoices still suck, and it just doesn't do what the marketing said it does.

So I've decided to write my own. Something that will work for my needs and possible other's as well. It does not need to be fancy. It just needs to work. I will use PGSQL, and valid XHTML.

Now I just need to make the time to program it.

What a day.

My T1 went off line at about 3:30am. I called SBC like 10 times trying to find out what's going on. They keep telling me they will call me back, but never do. It's crazy. It's going on seven hours now that I've been offline. I have had just about every customer call me asking why they can't access the net.

Thanks SBC.

Mac OS X.3

TextEdit now opens MS Word files with ease and quickness. I love it. No more having to run Open Office just to view a text only doc sent to me from business partners that don't know how to save as txt.

Xcode;

I'm checking out some of the example projects that come with Xcode and found a Mini-Browser project. I'm typing this from that project. This is cool. It does not look that hard to include a web browser into your applications.

Apple Webkit is cool.

Panther is here!

I now have Mac OS X.3 Panther installed on my system. Finally it's here and working great. My sound is working again, and hopefully my network shares will work right again also. I have not checked out everything yet, still getting stuff setup. I'm installing Xcode right now. I'll give you my review of it later on.
