Tomorrow the Databoost server will have One Year Uptime! I just can't believe it. Databoost is a Linux server. Linux just works, and works well. It has over 100 web sites on it. It's not a high bandwith server, but still, one year is impressive.

Finally... After three and a half month, I have the first phase of my BMG50 authentication system done. The NoCat Authentication system is installed and working with my PostgreSQL database. It was no easy task, I'll tell you. FreeBSD makes it a bit easier with the ports. It was just the configuration part that was hard.

Now all my relays use the VPN system to validate usernames and passwords. I had to buy a SSL Cert also to keep the warning messages off the browsers. I found out that MD5 in PHP is different than MD5 in Perl. I'm still trying to figure out that one. I might have to write a Perl MD5 app to generate the passwords for my PHP admin system. UHG.

But, maybe my new email server will work with the Perl MD5s...

Anyway, I've got a 1000 hours to go on my 'other' project, so I'm going back to work.

Click to view.I've been doing some work on my Samurai. Now I have removable doors and a new bumper. The sammy is looking good and getting better. Soon I'll have my new engine in and the sucka will climb a hill. Next is to buy new differentials. I'm getting some nice low gears to get me crawling on the rocks. I'll also get my 5th gear back!

I've been doing some work on my house today also. I now have the water cooler pumping cool air into the house via a new floor vent. I'm still working on building the plenum for it. I'm going to make it a few feet tall with louvers on it to direct the air flow. Then add a shelf or drawer above it. It will become an extension of the counter.

Anyway, it's shower time.

Click to view.I went out wheeling the other day and while we were up on the mountain it started to rain and thunder. Next thing you know, we are in a flash flood. Crazy slick mud and lots of water. As you can see my sammy got a bit dirty.

Craig was with us. It was not a good day for Craig. He got two flats. One on each side of his toy. We had to drive down and get a spare for him, then drive up and put it on.

Everything was flooded out. It was nuts. At the bottom of the hill, just before 50, there is a canal for the water to drain. Before we went up on the mountain we were driving in it. When we came down it was completely full. It was flowing over the road as well as under it.

It was a crazy day. Funniest thing is... It didn't even hardly rain at our house.

Msg:#860 of 1364Date:2004-07-21Subj:My users keep getting viruses ...

My users keep getting viruses that send out SPAM. This gets my relays put on SPAM block lists. Then none of the users on the relay can send email. Sucks. I get like 20 calls a day from customers saying they can't send email.

I'm still trying to find out how to block outgoing port 25 on Debian Linux using the IPMASQ package. If I just type the IP Tables rule in, then it will probably mess up the NoCatAuth setup, or the IP Masq. setup. So I have to figure out the correct way to do it.

I hate problems... And with computers, there is always a problem.

I'm still alive...

Last weekend I got my bumper for my Samurai almost finished. Lights are on, mounting brackets are on, and it's ready to bolt on. But I still have to cut off the tow bar that was welded on. I'm going to cut the welds off, then just bolt it on when needed.

I've been stuck in the office working a lot these days. Still have a ton of work to finish up. Long days until next month. I'm going on 14 hours a day now in the office. Still taking breaks every hour to keep in shape.

Not much else to talk about, so I'm going back to work.

I finally got my flag pole planted and my flag raised. It's really cool looking in the front yard. I'm using one of the well casings that I had for my old antenna mast. Jane painted it white. Then we put a pulley on the top and some rope, dug a hole and stuck it in. I just need some bushes and trees out there.

Next is my Inverter/Charger. It's fully setup and running. The new one came yesterday and I hooked it up. It turned on right away and is working like a champ. I'm glad, now I can ditch the old APC. I want to check the power output sine before I start putting all my systems on it. I don't want it to mess anything up.

So far, so good.

Things are pretty busy around here.

I'm working on software 14 hours a day and Jane is working on the house just about as long.

Jane is redoing our walk-in closet right now. New paint and new organizer. It's going to look really good, and also be very functional. The closet was getting a bit crowded.

I'm still waiting for my new Inverter/Charger to get here. I'm hopping it shows up today. I sure hope this new one works. I'm getting a free remote for it also. That will be real nice. Then I can get rid of my APC that beeps at me twice a day.

I have the new bumper cut for my Samurai and I'm grinding the edges now. I found some look turn signal lights for it. Little round ones. I should have it all mounted by next weekend. I'm also working on the carb. Trying to smooth it out with SeaFoam. I'm still saving up for some new ring & pinions. That's going to be my next purchase for it. Then after that I will get the new Weber Carb.

Anyway... Time to get back to work...

Msg:#856 of 1364Date:2004-07-11Subj:Again with the water cooler pr...

Again with the water cooler problems. Today I read that it was going to be 97 by wednesday, so I jumped up early to finish the air system.

It was not blowing very well because of back pressure. The 12" opening was just not big enough. So I came up with a plan to use two 12" pipes to blow air into the house. Jane came up with the plenum design, and I built it.

It was working great! Major difference in how much air came through to the house. Even with one side blowing on the ground.

So off I went to Lowes to buy another 25' of 12" ducting. On the way back Jane called and said the motor just quit. ARG!

I get home and sure enough the motor was not running anymore. I figured it was the overload protection. So I waited a while and then kicked it back on. It tried to spin. So I messed with it for hours. I finally gave up. It was toast.

Now I'm running the old...old motor. It's doing OK. I have it geared way down so it will not over heat. We will run this motor for awhile and see how it goes before buying another one.

I wanted to take the burned up motor back, but we can't find the receipt for it. All well.

Yesterday I went to four different skateparks. Boy am I tired today. I started out at Carson City park. That was just a warm up park. Then went out to Gardnerville park. I spend most of the day there doing some crazy stuff. Then headed out to Reno park and fooled around in the street course a bit. After that I ended up in Ferneley park riding the rail slides.

Today I'm going to put up my flag pole and put a new front bumper on my Samurai.
