m0n0wall should be called n0n0wall for Wireless Access Points. It does not work.

I have reverted my software back to Pebble Linux for my relays. It isn't easy to use, but it's stable. So no more headaches from that. I'm done. Stick a fork in it. No more changes.

What I'm going to do is get myself a m0n0wall setup as a transparent bridge in the NOC that will do the firewall and stuff. All I have to do is figure out how to bridge WAN and LAN. I'll probably have to go Pebble on that also, because m0n0wall just doesn't work the way I want it to.

I'm just going to have to learn how to write my own firewall.

OK, it's confirmed again in my testing.

m0n0wall can not be used as a wireless access point or wireless relay in a commercial setting. It just can't. It will lockup and die over and over because of the Power Save Mode bug in FreeBSD's HostAP drivers. I tried scripts to reboot when detecting errors and it didn't work.

Pebble Linux with the upgraded Linux HostAP drivers and some reboot scripts is the only thing so far that works stable.

Now that I can't use m0n0wall on my relays for wireless internet access using the captive portal, what do I do? I can't run m0n0wall in the NOC, because it won't do captive portal on a bridged connection. I don't want to run m0n0wall as NAT because I can't access the relays from my LAN through the NAT. So I guess I just can't use m0n0wall. It's such a great product.

NoCAT Auth doesn't work, it has a nasty login bug. There just isn't anything out there that works. I guess I'll just have to program my own stuff.

This sucks.

So many problems today. DNS, New Relay, wireless locking up, Spam sending viruses. Arg! Running an ISP is starting to suck.... Allot.

I just can't keep up with all the problems any more. I'm starting to wish that I never started this thing up. Everyone runs MS Windows. So everyone is getting Spyware, Malware, Viruses, and just normal MS problems. Their computers never work right, are slow, and are always causing problems on the network. Yesterday a customer is using P2P and hogging up the entire T1. A customer today gets a spam sending virus, so my email server get put on a black list... Again! My relay just stops working out of the blue right after I get everyone working again.

I wish that SBC would hurry up and get DSL out here. They have it down town, but I can't quit until it's everywhere.

Never go into the ISP business. It really sucks.

I'm finally getting better. I feel better. Still hacking and sniffling.

So my new email server is getting pounded by SPAMers. Argh! It keeps running out of memory. I need to buy some more RAM for it. It will only go up to 1GB so I need to get 256MB modules. They are cheap now days, so it's cool.

I guess it's not really a rush though. Even though it runs out of memory while processing all the SPAM, it doesn't lose any mail. It just slows it down.

I do need to get my but over to Pipers and replace the relay there. That's kind of a problem right now. Then I need to do the other one. After that, I'm going to do some testing on the extra relay to see if I can get m0n0wall to bridge multiple ports.

Fun stuff, all while working 18 hours a day to finish Webentory Version 4 before new years.

I'm starting to feel better...

The snow is melting outside. Now everything is mud. It actually got above 30 today. The sun was out and everything.

I finally got my new email server all switched over and running. Now that is done I can do other things. Well, once everyone is switched over to it... ;-)

I'm so sick. This sucks.

I tried to put up the new email server today, but it was a bust. It didn't work. I guess I missed a bunch of stuff. Anyway, I swapped it back to the old one.

I'm going to just do one domain at a time to work out the bugs. I setup kenoyer.com on the new email server. The new server is mx.bmg50.com. So get your POP3 mail there if you have an account. Also, I didn't know everyone's passwords, so just let me know what you want for it and I'll get it going. (Kathy, Karl, Emilie...)

I'm still totally sick, but I'm just trying to get stuff done. I don't have enough time to be laying around all day. ;-)

Msg:#927 of 1364Date:2004-12-04Subj:I was looking forward to doing...

I was looking forward to doing some wheeling this weekend, but I got sick in stead. Sucks. I finally got my flu. I usually would get it every year at about this time, but I haven't been sick in a while now. I feel like I'll be better tomorrow though. Maybe I can still get out there and do some wheeling.

I need to put up the new Relay at Pipers first though. It's ready to go, I just don't like the idea of climbing on the roof in this cold and snow. Maybe I will, maybe I won't.

I also finally got my new email server running. I think I'll switching that over in the morning, if I wake up early. Being sick may through a wrench in it. One problem I'm going to have is that I don't have all the user's passwords. I may run into some problems trying to get them all online. I guess I'll get some calls after I do the switch.

Anyway, I think I'm going to go to bed soon and sleep off some more of this flu.

I would pay $100 for step by step instructions on how to setup a FreeBSD email server using Postfix, POP3, and IMAP that all authenticate from a RADIUS server and Postgresql storage.

I have Postgresql and RADIUS already running. I can't figure out how to get Postfix, POP3, and IMAP working with RADIUS.

I did get Postfix working with PGSQL and found a POP3 that works for RADIUS, but I can't figure out how to get IMAP working with RADIUS or PGSQL.

I don't want to have to figure it out, I just want to get it up and running.

Click to view. The snow is still on the ground! Woo hoo! I should get out there and play in it before it goes away. The sun came out today so it's probably melting.

Yesterday I had a blast in it. I tried and tried to get stuck, but the sammy is too powerful to get stuck in just 6" of snow.
