So Tim came up to help with my crawler on Thursday.

On Friday we started by building a mounting stand for my bender and tire changer. That went really well. It's all built now and works great.

We also started to take apart my D44 to get it ready. We found out a few things. One, I don't have a lot of tools. Two, the D44 outers are much more beefy than the corp10's. And three, the corp10's are junk. So now I need to get the D44 top shaved flat and drill/stud the top for my high steer.

Today we wheeled. Finally got Tim into the v-notch and double rocks. He actually fell over in the v-notch. No real damage. Just scrapes. He was able to get out of the notch and made it through.

Tonight I decided to use the D60 I have out back. I'm going to have to check it out tomorrow and make sure it will work for me. It needs a pinion nut and I need to weld the gears. I sure hope it has 4.11s in it.

Also tomorrow I'm going to start the axle trusses for both axles...I hope. I'm going to finish the seat mounts too.

Too much fun ahead!

I've never really liked Firefox before. I've been using it lately because Safari has been giving me a few problems.

What problems is Safari having? I think it might be memory leaks or something. It will start going really slow after a few days. It even will slow down a whole multiuser AJAX app that I'm developing, slowing down everyone else using it. I'm going to take a break from it until the next version comes out.

One thing I'm liking about Firefox is the extensions. I've added quite a few. I've setup the tabs so I can drag them around. Put close buttons on them. Themed the browser so it will look half way good. Oh, and I setup a CSS content file so that I can nuke the font settings on those sites that still use FONT tags. Uhg, they always set them to size 1 for text. How does anyone read that small of text? I also styled the input tags and buttons so they look much better.

So it's half way nice now. It's ok for speed. The UI is slow, but web pages come up quick. AJAX/DHTML stuff seems slow and choppy. The ad-blocking support is awesome. I like the DOM inspector and Javascript consoles.

I'll give it a try for a few weeks. I'll report back then.

Wow, what a day. I've been actually working all day today. I only had a 10 minute break. Four hours billable is good. The rest was working on Orange Room stuff.

Ahh, Orange Room Software. I'm finally working on my own software for a change. It's nice to be working on stuff that I'm really interested in. I have some really cool stuff in the works.

Oh, did I tell you all that Dojo is AWESOME!

Dojo is fricken awesome! I started using it for a project a few months ago, but only used the AJAX stuff. Today I did some of the FX stuff, and I love how simple it is to do things. I fade out the background and pop a box in the middle of the screen for dialog. It's amazing.

I'm planning on using it's full feature list in the next few projects that I'm working on. I have a few things that I've already started, and they will be rolled into a bigger project soon.

I love programming new stuff!

Msg:#1069 of 1363Date:2006-04-06Subj:Javascript Errors on Web Pages.

I often use my web browser with my JavaScript console open. I do this for when I'm debugging my own web sites and web applications. But when I visit other sites on the internet my console fills up with error messages.

Am I the only one that looks at the JavaScript console while surfing sites?

I have noticed that Google and Yahoo have finally fixed their JavaScript errors. But there are many sites out there that just toss errors like confetti.

You should check your own site and see if there are any errors generated from it.

Msg:#1068 of 1363Date:2006-04-06Subj:Time

This time change has really got me this year. I've never had a problem with day light savings before, but this time it's a doozy. I just can't seem to get to bed early, and I sleep late.

Here I am at 11PM complaining about it and I could be in bed. ;-)

The crawler is getting further along. I have the engine finally mounted along with the transmission cross member. I have it setting at ride height right now, and it’s looking really good.

So next I’m going to start on the seat mounts, floor boards, firewall and other small items.

I can’t wait, things are picking up speed and it’s looking good. The only thing I’m worried about is the four links. They are going to cost a lot of money. Money that I don’t have right now. Hopefully I’ll have it in a few months so I can finish sometime in June.

Crossing my fingers.

I posted on PimpMySafari.com awhile back about how I found a hack to remove the tab bar from Safari. I think I actually found the hack on the same site.

Months went by and recently I’ve been receiving a lot of mail about it. People want to know how to do it.

I did a quick Google search and this is what I came up with:

1) Ok you need to have Xcode tools on your Mac.
2) Make a back up of your Safari App incase things go wrong.
3) Right click on Safari and select show package contents.
4) Browse to the english.lproj folder and within that goto the browser.nib folder.
5) Then right click on info.nib and open it with Interface builder.

Now your in the bit that defines how safari looks.
I assume you know how to get the unified menubar look.

6) Click on the TAB BAR section in the window.
7) Then select tools and show inspector, a window will pop up and check the box that says hidden.
8) Save it and reload Safari and the tab bar should now be gone.

If things go wrong you can revert back to your backed up copy of Safari.

This isn’t the way I did mine. Someone offered up their revised version of browser.nib that I downloaded and used. So if this don’t work… I can’t help you.

The eye is getting better. Still a bit blurry, but that should clear up in a week or so. It feels normal, so it will be OK soon.

Snow, snow, and more snow. The weather reports that it’s going to be snowing all week. I just want it to warm up and be summer already.

This weekend I should have my engine mounted in my chassis. It’s about time, only took a year…almost. I would have had it last weekend, but I got something in my eye.

Work has been busy. That’s a good thing. Still need to make a bit more to pay my taxes. I’m still about 4k short. I guess I’ll have to get some more jobs in the next 30 days.

The garage is almost done. Just a few more things. I have electricity in there. That makes it way easier to work. No more need to stretch the extension cord out. So now I just need to get the lights installed.

So I still need to figure out how to get my links for my buggy. It’s going to be about $2000 for my links. I’m taking PayPal donations for my buggy. ;-)

Msg:#1064 of 1363Date:2006-03-07Subj:It's in my eye!

So yesterday I was doing a little work in the garage. Part of that work was grinding a piece of metal. While grinding I didn’t put on my safety glasses. Welp… A small chunk went into my eye. I didn’t notice it until a few hours later. We tried to get it out the normal ways, but that didn’t work. Jane said it looked really deep, so off to the doctor we went. About four hours later and about $400 the chunk was removed with the burr tool. Basically they drilled it out. So now I’m half blind in one eye. It should be all healed up in a few weeks.

It’s really hard to look at the computer screen right now. I sure hope it’s better in a few days.
