We have eggs. There is at least one chicken laying right now. We found two eggs so far. Yesterday, no egg. I still need to check today. But, soon we will have a half dozen each day. Ahh, fresh eggs. Very good for my McMuffens.
Jane quit her job the other day. It was getting too hard to work there with all her co-workers treating her so bad. Amazon should really look into that. They are not making a very friendly work enviroment there. I heard that the lady that attacked Jane got an award a few days later.
Not only did Jane quit, but so did her mother. I never did like Amazon.com. Every since those stupid pattens that they sued everyone for. I guess I'll have to put my graphic back up.

In other news...
Still no word on when/if the halfpipe is going to open. CDC is doing very well now that Gary is selling accounts. Its getting cold here in Silver Springs already.
I guess thats about it.

I just finished my BMG50 Wireless web site today. I built the sign up form so that I can start getting customers signed up. The next thing I need to work on is getting the billing system built. I want to have it send out invoices at the correct times for each customer. I think that eMail invoices are the best way to go and do paper invoices when requested.
I also got my first customer all set up on sunday. The install went smooth and without a single problem. They really liked the speed of the connection. Its funny because its only about tenth of the speed it will be when I get my T1. Then they will see some real speed.
Today I cleaned up my server room and installed some shelving. Now I have a place for all that hardware to collect dust.
Tomorrow I have about 10 web sites to build. Business is picking up for CDC. I'm glad also. After years of work it looks like its going to pay off....I hope.
Well, I'm going to bed now....

Well, its time to reinstall Janes system today. Thats what I'm doing right now. Her system was getting really flaky. Even printing was not working right. The Explorer was crashing and a lot of apps just would not launch.
So far Windows 2000 has been a lot better than the older versions. It has been running for about nine months without having to be reinstalled. So Win95 was one month, Win98 was four months and now Win2k is about nine month until total re-install.
I have Linux servers that have been running for years without a total-reinstall. I'm hoping that my Mac is good for years also. Really the only time that I think would need a total reinstall would be for a major upgrade and cruft cleaning.
Oh yeah, What do you guys think of my new home page layout? I like the Orange at the top. Makes it much more simple.

Well, things just were not working out with Mac OS X 10.2. So, I nuked the drive and reinstalled it. See, last time I just upgraded my system. Nothing was working right. Most likely because of all the tweaks I did to it. Anyway, now that I reinstalled it from scratch its working great. Everything seems to be working now. All the stuff in my last entry that I said was not working is now working fine.
I guess when I read that the upgrade does not work all that well, I should have just reinstalled.

Msg:#360 of 1364Date:2002-08-29Subj:Mac OS X; Jaguar
Well, so far...
Mac OS X; Jaguar
Well, so far here is what I have found.
The Good:
* SMB: Work much better now. Faster and I have not had a lock up yet.
* Terminal works a bit better. I guess I wont toss GLTerm.
* Faster over all.
* UI is cleaner.
* Worth the upgrade...almost.
The Bad:
* Sherlock: Does not work very well. I can get the movies and yellow pages, but nothing else works. I wish that Apple Care would work at least.
* iChat: Does not work. Crashes a lot with "Uncaught exception" message boxes.
* Loaded MSIE on my system again....
* Terminal still sucks even if it is a little bit better. Still most of the keys dont work right. The emulation really is poor.
* Whats up with the keyboard mapping in OS X. Home should go to the beginning of the line and End should go to the end of the line. So much easier to work that way.
Well, its worth the upgrade...buy just a wee bit. The speed is very much improved for a lot of stuff, but most of the new apps that are included do not work. The Calculator is a whole lot better. I kind of wish that iChat worked because the interface is better than Yahoo, but it does not work at all for me. I can not send a chat or receive a chat. I can't even click on the messages tab in the preferences. I just get errors. Maybe there will be a update soon.
So thats, that.

Msg:#359 of 1364Date:2002-08-28Subj:My dad has the whole front yar...
My dad has the whole front yard clean up and looking good. He has been out hoeing weeds and making things look good. He is doing a great job also. It looks 100% better out there. I have been moving dirt with the tractor from the pile to the drive way. Trying to make it look like a real drive way. Its getting there.
Last night I worked on the text search for the Webentory engine. I have it working really well now. It will do searches like "white chevrolet 4x4 power windows locks". Still working on doing multiple makes and models. I'll have that done in a few days.
I received my OS X version 10.2 today. I have it installed and running. So far, I think its faster, but I have not done anything that I can tell yet. I still have the dev stuff to install. Then I can compile apps. It comes with a lot of new software. I kinda like it. It has some interface upgrades too. I'll report more after I use it for a while.
I am now a licensed business owner in Nevada. I went out Monday and got my license. Cost...$125 out the door. Well, now I'm for real. I will be setting up my first customer this weekend I hope. I had to get a bigger antenna for them. The first one I bought was 15DbI and that was not enough gain. I ordered the 24DbI for $100. I sure hope it works. I may have to upgrade my Omni on the roof. It is only a 12DbI. Anyway, things are looking good there.
Well, thats all for today.

Wow 18 days since I last wrote anything. I have been super busy. Lots of stuff going on. I still dont have my business license. I'm planning on going down and geting it taken care of on monday. I really need to get this ISP going. I really want to call for that T1 this month.
My dad is back from his vacation. We played all day yesterday with the tractor. We filled in some holes in the back yard. Next we are going to do some landscaping with it.
Today I went to the gun show. Johnny found some 7.65 ARG. Norma for my Mauser. This is the good stuff that we can reload. It was a really good show. I found a lot of stuff to get when I get some money. I'm going to build my self a match 308 target gun.
I got my first customer for wireless today. I'm ordering the parts and going to set them up next week some time. After I get them setup, I can fine tune the network and make sure everything is good. Then I can really start signing people up.
Well thats about it for now.

Msg:#357 of 1364Date:2002-07-31Subj:I'm almost there with BMG50 Wi...
I'm almost there with BMG50 Wireless Networks. This weekend I'm going to work on the billing and invoicing system. Then I'll have to get a printer for the customers that want paper bills. I called about my business license the other day and now I'm waiting for the call back.
On the network side. I tried installing NoCatAuth, but it did not work. Its running but still lets anyone in and through. I'm still trying to figure that one out. I might just go with PPPoE like I was going to to originally. I seen this project, so I decided to give it a try, but so far its not working. I finally found some instructions for installing PPPoE, so I'll do that this weekend. I also need to setup a email server. I'm starting to understand why I will need to use VPN. There are a lot of apps that send passwords as plain text through the air. Anyone can just sniff for passwords and have access to everything. I'm going to start looking into VPN this weekend also. Mabye I won't need PPPoE.
I need to set the router at Johnny's into bridged mode so the network will work across the two wireless interfaces. I also need to do something about the heat. It is very hot in that attic. Does anyone know of anyone that wants to buy a Linksys Access Point? We bought one but it won't work with our network. We were going to use it as a bridge, but it will only talk with another WAP11. Stupid.
Anyway, its the first of the month and I still don't have my ISP setup, but I will have it going by the end of the month for sure.

Wow, I've been lagging on my journal.
Well, looks like the half pipe is being rebuild. I hope it opens soon. I really want to skate it.
I've been working on my wireless stuff some more. We have another antenna setup at Johnny's house and we are setting up a wireless bridge/gateway there. People will be able to point their antenna's at Johnny's and get a connection. Now I have to find a place to set one up on the other side of town. This is getting very interesting. I need to start getting people setup now. I'm ready to do this. Things have been very stable at Johnny's.
I setup a new gateway here so I could get the WISP off my personal file server. Now I just have to firewall the internet from the local net. The only problem I see is that everyone will be able to see everyone else. I hope there is no evil hackers out there.
It will take me about two-three weeks to get the T1 installed after I pay for it. I just need to get the money to start now. As soon as I get the customers signed on I'll get it.
I have to get contacts put together and a billing system. I still need to get my business license. Gesh. Lots of things to do when you start a company. I need to do this stuff monday.
Thats about all for today.

Msg:#355 of 1364Date:2002-07-18Subj:We started with 5 baby chicken...
We started with 5 baby chickens. They were in the pen with the other chickens. Two disappeared, maybe crows or or some other type of bird. Another one died last night. This time it was a snake. It tried to swallow the chicken but I guess it was too big and spit it back out. Well, now the baby chickens are back inside the house until the grow up. Geesh, stupid wild animals. I made the snake leave the coop. I wanted the snake to eat the dumb chipmonks and other small birds, but not the chickens. Don't they understand.. ;-)
Anyway, we have two left and they may be both roosters. All the hens were eaten. I guess we will see in about three months.
